First Ride to Work (9.5km)

The morning drizzled but I’ve made up my mind to give cycle to work a try today.  So, can’t betray a personal commitment. That means, I have to put on a bike short, any t-shirt will do,  cycling shoe and sunglass, pack my work clothes, towel, etc. I wanted to check out the fastest, most convenient route to reach my work place in time to wipe off sweats and change to work clothes in the wash room next to the office. For now, the best thing about cycling to work is knowing that you’ll enjoy a nice sunset ride home after work.

Route6: SamaJayaFIZ-Asajaya Return Trip (~97.2km)

For a band of riders (MTB riders please) like us, Saturday is THE DAY of the week which we’re always looking forward to right after we’re done with the Sunday. Surely, Saturday is the only perfect ‘vacation’ day for everyone since Sunday is widely proclaimed as a ‘resting’ day.  While Sunday is what it is supposed to be since the introduction of English language; church, family gathering, ‘empty’ chats, weekly gossip updates, watching sports-on-TV or those repeated TV-sitcoms,  Saturday is the day you ‘vacate’ your routines to go the distant, to journey the off-beaten tracks, to realize that there’s more to life than the routine, ringgit-justifying, 9-to-5 desk job and to eat your heart out on food you barely know how to cook.

So, I say keep your Saturday sacred and ‘holi’ (as in holiday) and start your ‘vacation’ day early in the morning to get the fullness of THE DAY.

blog alert> OFF THE RECORD:

6-Nov-10: Sobes’ Birthday, officially ## years young. Entrance to the trail from Kampung Apar, Singai. Blood-sucked alive by few leeches, trashing through ~ 4km of uncharted trail which is awkwardly named “Mutud” or “Fart” in English, lost our way out and stranded for 45 minutes in the jungle, recovered the exit trail after a short snack break, a thorn punctured a front tyre despite of its kevlar-built, exited through a kampung at Tembawang-Sibuluh area, lunch at a Sibuluh roadside stall, rode another ~12 something KM back to our cars and jeep, and me (writer) ended my journey kissing the dirt hard before the first of 2 bridges over Adis River. Luckily, I woke up in one piece, braved my way back, poker-faced, hoping no one noticed that it was actually a pretty unattractive fall.

All in all, a totally different off-road experience with 99.5% on foot and 0.5% on bike. It was the Saturday we did our bike a huge favor as we actually crashed through the jungle without parang..hehe.  Or is it the Birthday Boy’s gift!? ;-)  Hello November!
